It takes a special kind of girl to wear clicky high heels and pull them off. Not only do you have to be able to walk without looking like a penguin, but you have to have confidence. I mean, if people are going to be looking at you - and believe me, they WILL be looking at you - you have to have "the presence".
I once overheard a conversation between two girls at a coffee shop (derp-a-derp-derp) who said that it's best if (female) teachers have clicky heels, because it gives them more of a presence. Why am I telling you this story? Well because I'm not much of a heels person (mostly because of the penguin thing) but after an experience I had today, I'm starting to reconsider. I bought these really tiny kitty heels brought them with me on my trip since they're comfortable, good for teaching and everyday use, and really cute! Because of the extended use, however, the rubber part of the heel has worn off and I have nothing left but the cement-like part of the heel. That means that my little kitty heel clicking has evolved to super-clicking. Sometimes I get self-conscious about how much noise I was making, but today I discovered that it's not always a bad thing: as I was walking to my gate, the guy ahead of me was walking pretty slow and wandering back and forth so I couldn't get by him. But then we got off the carpet and onto the hard floor...and he HEARD me coming and moved out of the way! Then the same thing happened on the superspeed moving sidewalk, and again when a family of 4 kids were holding hands and basically had a red rover game going on in front of me. Click, click, problem solved.
It was so cool, it was like parting the Red Sea of slow airport walkers.
So thank you, clicky heels. You've done me proud.
Until Next Time,
