Today we woke up around 9am, and the kids had gone off to school by then.
Alex and I woke up, had breakfast outside in the sunshine (blazing again!) and then went on the trampoline. Oh, and took another few quick snapshots, check em' out!
After Niamh came back from dropping the kids off from school and going to her pilates class, she drove us into Sligo, where we did a little bit of shopping, and walking around the adorable little streets and things. We were looking for a thank-you gift for the family, but it’s always hard shopping for someone when they’re there with you…so that mission ended unsuccessfully.
We went for a coffee break at a cute little café right on the river, where a swan and some mallards made our acquaintance. From previous encounters that I’m sure you’ve all read about, I knew not to get too close to the deceivingly elegant-looking swan.
Before we knew it, it was time to go pick up Niall from school, and as we waited for him to come out to the gates, I snapped a few photos of the scenery:

We brought him home, had a bite to eat, and then Jenny and her friend Laura were done school so Niamh went to pick them up while Alex and I spent some time with Niall. And we ended up on the trampoline again. Luckily, we avoided the body-slamming, hair-pulling, laughing bundle that is Niall, and managed to keep him actually using the trampoline for it’s intended purpose, and not as a wrestling ring.
Pre-trampoline extravaganza, Niall in his adorable little school uniform
An adorable self-picture Niall took (accidentally?)
Alex and I helped Niall a bit with his homework – which really made me realize that getting into the field of teaching special education might actually be a really good idea for me after all. I’d been thinking about it a bit before, and I think I may pursue it and get some qualifications for when I go out into the teaching world.
We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sunlight, and then Alex and I went for a walk into town, about a mile down the road (here’s some pictures from our journey):
We met a nice horsey called Sue, who was PREGGERS if I ever saw one. We got into the local supermarket and bought a little thank-you present for the family as well as some other things.

En route to the store; I thought it was a cute shot
When we came back, it was supper time and we had anoooother amazing meal (roast chicken and veggies – so amazing and filling!) and then digested our food for a while before going on a trip that would prove to be the highlight of my time here so far. The 6 of us (plus Archie!) went down to the beach to watch the sunset, and it was soooo nice! It’s been farrrr too long since I’ve felt sand between my toes and breathed in the air rushing in from over the ocean. And as I stood there, looking at the sun, I was thinking that it’s probably the closest to home I’ve been in a long time. The sky was a miraculous blend of pinks and oranges and the sun, as it lowered, was such a beautiful red. I took some pictures, but again, they just doesn’t do it justice.
Fineen, Niamh, Jenny, Alex, and Niall. And Archie.
Another stunning pic of my new BFF. And that's Jenny's silhouette in the back, fyi.
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes. It brought me back to life.
And that was basically the end of our day, just a lovely, nature-y, simple, relaxing day on the west coast of Ireland. I hope that in a week’s time, when I’m stressing out like mad trying to do my 100% presentation and working on my theory assignment and working on trombone and a million other things that I’ve been trying to avoid thinking about this week, I’ll be able to look back and remember that night and how I didn’t have a worry in the world.
Alex and I tried to watch a Bee Movie, but we got about ½ an hour into it and realized that we were both too tired to finish it. It’s insane how much energy the sun sucks out of you.
Night!

P.S. Turns out I was right about Penny’s debit machines being useless. I got money out today from an ATM no problemo.
Silly Penny’s…
