Easter Hols Day 14 – April 11th 2010.

Today as our second day in Sligo, and since Alex and I were pretty tired from a day of travelling and then horsing around with her little cousins, we zonked out after our post-supper chat and then slept until 11am! As much as I love sleeping in, as maaaany of you know (one of my talents, really),  I am looking forward to tomorrow when the plan is to get up earlier…it just makes the day seem so short when you get up and its already half over! That also means that I’ve only been awake for just over 12 hours, and I’m not that tired right now! Yikerssss.

These are some pics I took around the house/garden before we left in the morning:
So anyway, we got up around 11, then had breaky before before Niamh, Jenny, Alex and I headed to Ballina to visit Alex’s grandma, Theresa. I had received lots of warning from Alex herself, Niamh, and others, about Theresa’s apparent bluntness, and was really actually quite nervous to meet her! I tried to make sure that I looked well put together, and that I smelled nice and matched and my shoes were suitable and told myself to smile more and talk less. But all that worrying was for nothing! It was so nice to see Alex and her grandma catch up, and the house was adorable!
Granny T's cute little street

A short visit, a mini Crunchie, some tea, and a piece of lemon cake later, the 5 of us (granny included) went to Penny’s, a store that has been described as “somewhere between Primark and stealing” (aka very very cheap – price, and usually quality, as a result)…but anyway, it was fun! I got a pair of 7 euro jeggings, and a little floral print dress/jumper for over leggings for 5 euros, and a 3 euro pair of shoes! Can you believe it!?! The only thing that worried me was that my bank card didn’t work…I don’t know if it was because I’m in Ireland or what…but it should have, it was just a bank card…
I’ll have to try and get some money out tomorrow…otherwise I don’t know what I’ll do! :S Let’s just hope that all was well and that the debit machine was just as cheap in quality as those shoes were in price…

Anyway, so after Penny’s, we went to visit a grave of a Molloy family member and then dropped off granny again before heading to Enniscrone, where we got ice cream and walked down to the end of the pier looking over the ocean. It was soooo pretty! I can’t believe that people actually live here…if I lived anywhere close to a place like that, I’d be there all the time!
After that, we went back to their home, where we played around a bit on the trampoline (I basically got my fix from all those years as a kid when I whined every day wishing I had one) and then we had an AMAZING Sunday supper of roast beef and veggies, and really good potatoes ( but of course, we’re in Ireland!!!).

After supper, Jenny and Niall got ready for bed because they have to go back to school tomorrow, and Alex and I watched Shrek 3. Too funnyyyy!!

I can’t even explain to you the scenery here! Its like we’re surrounded by mountains! I can really see why the national colour is green here. The grass was so vivid and the mountains seemed to go on for forever. It was like a painting, where you could see really well close up, and then the further the mountains got away, the mistier and mistier and less visible they became. I tried to take some pictures to show you, but anyone who’s reading who has been to the countryside of Ireland knows that the pictures just can’t do the place justice. If I said breathtaking, it wouldn’t quite suffice. So I’ll just leave you to imagine with a few examples of what a lens can capture (a simple Canon elph lens, at that…). I’m hoping tomorrow to be able to get some more photos to show you guys.
Here's a little picture of some of the views we had today...some more typically 'Irish" than others, but allll beautiful!! :

I guess that’s pretty much it for today – sorry about the short post! I know these are basically turning into diary entries rather than a blog, but I promise you all that as soon as I’m back into school routine, it’ll be more witty and interesting and maybe I’ll get a smile or 2 out of you.

I’m laying in my bed typing this and my feet are falling asleep, so maybe it’s a hint that I should, too (typing that sentence, I all of a sudden thought of ‘the sun has gone to bed and so must I’ from the Sound of Music…maybe that’s because of Julie Andrew’s voice in Shrek, or maybe its just because I was looking for an excuse to cut this short…)

OH YES. And one last story. I was going to bed last night and asked Alex if there was a time that she wanted us to be awake by, and she sarcastically replied, “oh, yea, I was thinking that you should get up around 5:30am or so, so that you can take Archie for a walk and maybe start some washing and everything” and so I took that as #1) her actually meaning that no, we could sleep as long as we wanted, and more importantly #2) an opportunity to set an alarm for 5:30 am just to annoy her.
 Well, it worked.
And, note to self: Alex at 5:30 am is NOT a happy camper.

Until Next Time,
Beckers
