Today was my most hilarious day yet.
I had the chance to work with a student 1-on-1 who is struggling with the English language. He was working with another teacher on his English assignment, which was creating a ‘message to the world’ about anything you wanted to share. The student I was working with decided that what he wanted to share with the world was the following: “I love meat”. That’s it. He loves meat. So we (the other teacher and I) started prompting him to give more information – to tell us why he likes meat or what kind of meat he likes, or why the world would want to know this. He answered, totally seriously “Because we Turkish people eat meat, at every food.” It only got funnier when he said that he thought that everyone should eat meat, and that if he was the prime minister, he would make sure that everyone had to eat meat. Then he said that vegetarians were so annoying how they say that they feel sorry for animals “because they will die and we will eat them. But then I say the same thing about a grape. Why you eating so many fruits? A life is a life, you know. It is all the same thing. I will take a lot of meat in my hands and shove it in their faces!! “ It only got funnier when he exclaimed, “And then, I love barbeque”. And we said, “Oh, so you like mean you like it when you cook meat on the barbecue?” and he said “No, I love barbecue”. All I could think of was “I love lamp”. And he said it over and over, |”No, I don’t. We Turkish people love barbecue. I love barbecue!” And then he got frustrated when we asked him what it was about the barbecue that he liked, so he took our pen and drew us a picture. He drew a barbecue (a pretty good one, at that) and then drew a heart around it. You know, just in case we didn’t get the picture.
THEN he was talking about how they make the meat on the barbecue, and he said that “It takes 5 whores to make it”. I almost burst out laughing in disbelief until I realized he meant that it takes 5 HOURS to make it. Oh lord, that kid totally made my day!
The day continued on in the hilarity when I worked with the grade 4s in English. One of the kid’s name was Shoddy, and because he acted out so much, his name was said often by the teacher. Best part was, after she said it a couple times, all I could think of was “Shorrrt-yy” from that rap song. Besides that, the entire class was just super hilarious and cute, and because their English isn’t very good yet, they make a lot of honest and adorable mistakes.
Choir was excellent again today, and the real conductor was there, unlike last week, so they sounded even better! I'm sad I'll be gone by the time the concert comes around.
Give it a listen on the link here (coming soon!).
Anywhoooo, better be off, but I'll post again when I can! :)
Until Next Time,
Beckers
