My world in a new light.

So, kids.

Today is a GREAT day. Yesterday was, too.
Thank the good Lord. Someone is looking out for me up there.
Have I mentioned: Since I've been here, I've lost my cellphone, my meal card, my keys and my student card TWICE, and each time I've gotten them back. I have a new-found faith in humanity. Thanks, Scottish friends. :)
Really, though. I am looking on life in a new light. That "light" is called sunlight.
That's right. Knock on wood (please, really do so if you're reading this). It's been such a GORGEOUS week: blue skies, the sun is out, and good things keep happening!
The other day I was thinking of my mom because I started singing:
"Good mooorning, and how do you do?
I hope you are well this morning!
The sun is shining, the sky is blue,
The apples are ripening for me and for you!
Good mooorrrrning, and how do you do?
I hope you are well today!"

6 Reasons why I'm in such a good mood:

#1. Today is my favourite day of the year. I always say that the first day you can walk outside without a jacket is my favourite day of the entire year...I mean, it wasn't REALLY that warm (probably between 5 and 10 degrees) but with the sun shining on you, it was definitely too hot to have my winter pea(ish) coat on! I had a thin jumper on under it, and I even had to roll up those sleeves on that...

#2. I met with another Queen's student today -- it's so nice to be able to talk to them and say things like "I wish I could go to Lazy right now!" and "Man, I thought SODEXHO was bad!" and have them know what you mean.

#3. I met some really awesome people last night at the photography society...every week seems to be better and better than the one before! :) I can't wait for what's in store :)

#4. I bought my ticket today for ANOTHER CEILIDH! SO EXCITED!

#5. I got messages/emails from a few close friends from back home and it TOTALLY made my morning. It was so nice to wake up to people caring about me! :) Sending all my love and hugs back home to you all!

#6. I'm finally making some new friends outside of G Block! Not that G blockers aren't enough -- they're all SO sweet and I love them to bits. But I was hoping to meet some people who are in my program or at least my age...and I've recently been talking a lot more to people in my French class and in societies I'm in (not just photo soc).

I could go on and on.

The only sad part about being here right now is I'm FREAKIN' MISSING ROLL UP THE RIM!!!!! For those of you who don't know what that is, here's an example:

Basically, Roll Up The Rim To Win is an annual marketing event from Tim Hortons, my most favouritest (yes, I know that's bad grammar AND not a real word) coffee chain in Canada. Although Canadian through and through, I have heard that Timmy's has recently spread to areas of the States, and maybe even a few locations overseas! Regardless, it is damn good. And when it's roll up the rim season, my coffee/hot drink intake triples. And now I can't have it because there aren't any in Aberdeen. Soooooo sad. If anyone in Canada reads this and sends me an [empty, obviously] cup to roll....I will be eternally indebted to you. Anyway, basically, every time you buy at least a medium sized coffee, the cup comes with a pre-printed game on it, so that when you've finished your beverage, you roll up the rim of the cup to reveal whether or not you've won a prize. Prizes vary between free donuts, coffee, cash, Tim Horton's gift certificates, and bigger things like cars or barbeques or laptops or boats! It's so exciting and 1 in 9 cups wins (or something like that). Last year I had a good run, I think I won 3 or 4 times!  To give you an idea of what happens when you don't win...the face usually ends up being something like this (note that this was about 3 years ago...so I look a bit different...)

More like Roll up the Rim to LOSE :( booooo!

Some people (not naming any names *cough*AmandaPulling*cough*) get really into it and even buy a rim roller that goes on a keychain, like this:

This is what it looks like                                       ....and this is how you use it!

Even PETS like Roll up the rim!

Seriously, it's a time of nation-wide coffee, winning, and joy! Who doesn't want that?

And for my Canadian friends, I thought this was a gem (although its from 2008, so don't take his advice too much to heart!) :

Anyway, my little lovebirds, I am going to go do something productive like try out this thing I hear is called "homework". The word sounds familiar, like something I might have done in the past, but I can't really remember how to do it...
Cheers to infinity,
Beckers
