Aberdeen, the Windy City. Aberdeen U, home of the unorganized registration.
Hey, remember last post, when I started it with "I finally got my timetable figured out" ?
Hahahahahahahahaha.
That was funny, wasn't it? Hilarious, really.
I am SO FED UP with the registration system here, it's unbelievable! It's just so unorganized and there is such a lack of communication! Because I'm in a weird class (non graduating, 3rd year, exchange in BMus but with a non-BMus adviser), I've fallen through a lot of cracks in terms of being informed about my program.
Let me explain.
Last Friday (erm...that was yesterday...) I got up and went to my European Art Music class...I showed up about 5 minutes early and met an American girl, Claire, outside the classroom door. We walked in together, to a small room with only about 5 people in there, and a lecturer that had started already. She told us we hadn't missed much (I thought it was strange that she had started early) but I just shrugged it off, found a seat, and took out my papers. Then I started listening to what she was saying, and it was about getting a career in music, and writing a resume, and....basically just not European Art Music, to say the least. So Claire says "is this European Art Music?" and the lecturer is all "noooo, I've had this room booked for a long time!" and so we got up and left again. I suppose it could have been a bit more awkward/embarrassing...but it really wasn't our fault, as it was the right time/day/place as was on our timetables.
Strange, yes? I smelled a mystery to be solved.
Claire and I headed down to the music office and asked them what the hell was going on (in a much more polite manner, of course) and APPARENTLY, from the lips of the director of the faculty himself, European Art Music is not a course that is being offered this year.
That's right, folks. They screwed up again.
So now it's up to ME to find ANOTHER course that actually IS being offered, that I can take to transfer back to Queen's, and one that doesn't conflict with the other courses I have.
Brilliant.
To no avail, I tried looking at the other courses offered. Nothing in 3rd year at all. I'm considering taking a 1st year course in Scottish music....that'll be something scottishy (did I just make up that word??) and interesting, I think. Cause there's no way I'm going to be able to take a Scottish history or politics class and stay alive, nevermind awake.
Soon, I'll have to send an email to my adviser asking him to fix my courses AGAIN, and hopefully that'll be the last he hears of me.
Then on Monday I have my audition.
Tuesday I have to register with the police--
WHICHREMINDSMETHAT HOLY COW ITS ALMOST THANKSGIVING!!!!
Although, there's no such thing as thanksgiving here. How sad :( I'm hoping that Mia and I can get together and plan something thanksgiving-y (we were talking about it before). I would LOVE some turkey and casserole and pickled beets and STUFFING. ahhhhhh. I feel full just thinking about it.
And two more last things that you just absolutely have to know:
1) I got Julia HOOKED on How I Met Your Mother! Win!!!
2) Alex and I went shopping today at the city centre (didn't buy anything but just had a nice catch up, since I was so sick last week) and she's sooo super nice! Anyway, it was SO EFFING WINDY you wouldn't believe it! I could barely walk (and I am not a twig!) and my hair was blowing all over my face. It wasn't even like the wind was headed in any direction, it was blowing every which way, and I couldn't see because my hair was in mu face. A guy in a convenience store told us that to solve that problem, just do what he did: shave our heads! Anyway. That's not the crazy part of the story. We get back from shopping, and my dear, dear Julia's room is void. No bedding, no clothes, no things on her desk. Just an empty room. I started freaking out, thinking "oh no, she's gone home! :( " and then I realized that there was a guy in her room, sweeping up a big mess of glass....and a TREE STICKING INTO HER ROOM!!!!!!!!
That's right. It was so windy that the tree got blown over (it was a pine tree), and it smashed through her window, WHILE SHE WAS STUDYING RIGHT BESIDE IT!!! The glass exploded inwards as the tree shot through, and she got a cut on her wrist (not too bad). Anyway, she's been pretty shaken up, so say the least. They brought her to the doctors and I think she's going to be okay. She got moved into a room across the hall that hadn't been filled yet, and everyone's been nice about getting her where she needs to go, making sure she's feeling okay, etc.
On the bright side, though, her old room now smells like pine.
Oh, I can't wait for Christmas!!
That's all for now, mates!
Cheers (apparently that means "thanks" here....thumbs up to Evie; she was right all along. So I've decided to change my signing off. Just leaving it at cheers for now),
